Free Mac Software Downloads

So, you paid quite an amount to get your Mac. Now you wonder, where the heck are you going to get the software that you need for your Mac. You find Apple’s Download site but get disappointed because most of them are just demo versions. That’s how I felt. So I decided to post here a list of free mac software downloads that you might find interesting. I will try to religiously update this list, but I have to try the apps first. So please bear with me. For starters, let me list down the Free and Open Source Mac Applications that I have tried and am currently using.

  • Adium - IM client. Works with AIM, YM, MSN, etc.
  • Alarm Clock - alarm clock and timer. I use this when I surf with Smart 3G. Nothing fancy.
  • Audacity - for my audio editing needs
  • Camino - is an open source web browser developed with a focus on providing the best possible experience for Mac OS X users.
  • Cyberduck - FTP client
  • Firefox - Firefox. need I say more?
  • MacOSaiX - Create you own photo mosaic
  • Monolingual - Uninstalls unnecessary languages from your Mac. Saves you around 1GB of disk space
  • Neo Office - Open Office port for Mac
  • TeamViewer - remote desktop
  • The Unarchiver - Uncompress RAR, 7zip, tar, and bz2 files on your Mac. Many new Mac users will be puzzled the first time they download a RAR file. Do them a favor and download UnRarX for them!
  • Transmission - Torrent client
  • VLC - all around media player

Check out more free Mac software here. Of course, there are commercial apps that are worth paying for, and no open source alternative could match what these apps could offer. Check them out on my next post.

Calling all fellow Mac users, got any Free and Open Source Software for Mac that you could suggest?
