Acer Aspire 5583WXMi Review
For starters, let me share with you a review of the gadgets that I own. First one on the list is my Acer Aspire 5583WXMi notebook.
I use this laptop mainly to surf the net and to track my expenses, budget, and investment portfolio’s performance. During weekends, my brother and I would play NBA Live on it. I also use software for converting videos, watching movies, and downloading of files. I’m running Windows XP Professional SP2.
What’s Inside:
- Intel Core 2 Duo processor T5500 (1.66Ghz, 667Mhz FSB, 2 MB L2 cache)
- 14.1″ WXGA CrystalBrite LCD
- Up to 256MB Nvidia GeForce Go 7300 TurboCache
- 120 GB HDD
- DVD- Super Multi Double layer (support DVD +R Double Layer/DVD +/- RW)
- 512MB DDR2 (support dual-channel) (up to 4GB)
- 802.11 a/b/g wireless LAN
- Bluetooth 2.0+ EDR
- 4 in 1 Flash Multi Card reader (built-in)
- Built-in 1.3 Mega pixel WebCam
- complete with bag, charger, manuals
The Pros:
- Built-in Bluetooth, Webcam, Built-in Card reader
- Dedicated video card for gaming and photo editing
- The incorporated scroll function (horizontal and vertical) in the touch pad is a convenient feature.
- The 1280 x 800 pixel resolution (16:10 viewing ratio) is excellent for watching DivX movies; word processing; office applications and web browsing.
- Very quiet and minimal heat
- Great for multitasking
The Cons:
- No Windows XP Recovery DVDs included
- Bundled Acer Software eat up too much memory
- Memory needs to be upgraded
- Battery life
Conclusion:
At Php69,900 (US$1270*) and 18 months 0% interest installment, the Acer Aspire 5583 was the best package that suited my needs. Other laptops considered lacked the dedicated video card or DVD recorder while those that had the same specs were too pricey for me. Its price has been cut down already, which makes it more bang for the buck.
Rating: 8.5/10
*Note: US$1 = Php55 (December 2006). This is not a paid review. I hope it was. LOL.
