Sun Broadband Wireless Internet Sharing
It has been two months since I subscribed to Sun Cellular’s wireless internet service that is weirdly named “Sun Broadband Wireless”. I think it’s weird because broadband was mentioned before wireless. And weirder because it is barely able to provide “broadband” service. But that’s not the point.
Now let’s assume that you have Sun Broadband Wireless, and you want to share your internet connection, how do you do that? Well, you came to the right place. Because that’s exactly what I’m going to write about. In fact, I am writing this post via a computer to computer wifi connection. I’m using a MacBook while the host (the computer connected to SBW) runs on Windows XP SP2. As promised, here’s a list of internet sharing options for your Sun Broadband Wireless:
- On a Mac, use AirPort Internet Sharing. Tested to be working with wifi enabled gadgets such as PSP, iPhone 3G, iPod touch, HTC touch. COST: zero. CONS: shortened battery life for Mac. Windows-based laptop cannot connect.
- On Windows XP, enable Internet Connection Sharing on your SBW connection. Create an ad-hoc (computer-to-computer) wifi network. This is the current setup at home right now since the PCs can’t connect to my Mac. Tested with 5 concurrent users. 1 Vista, 3 XP, 1 MacBook. I have yet to test if the wifi enabled gadgets are able to leech from the host’s internet connection. COST: zero. CONS: shortened battery life for host PC
- Use a 3G Mobile Router. Here’s a sample. However, this router is very costly. At Villman, it costs Php8,988.
There you have it. Let me know what works for you or if I left out other internet sharing options. Thanks!

It is so wonderful to read your comment as I also have just applied for the SBW and met the problem of sharing the broadband . I have asked some people of how to do with it , the sun shop assistant told me to use the 3G router. But I have looked for so many computer shops and only the villman can order that, with undefinit period for waiting. So I am very interesting in your method and I do not know whether it is suitable to me. I am using the Windows XP sp2 ,desktop. Would you please tell me can I use the second method you metioned ? If I do, would you be kindly tell me the detail of how to do it step by step (I am not so good at computer) ? For example how to Create an ad-hoc,please ? Anything else of the system that I should tell you ? Please tell me. Looking forward to hearing from you very soon !

hi! interested ako to find out if its possible to connect my sunbroadband modem to my PC ( windows xp) then meron kc akong laptop (2nd unit) na gusto ko rin sana i-connect sa internet simultaneously sabay sa PC ko. Usually kc nag oonline games ako sa PC, since mas mataas video card ko dun, then yung laptop naman ginagamit ng sister ko. Meron po ba kayo alam pano to connect my Linksys WRT54G wireless router? Thanks!

Hi Maki, thanks for visiting. It does work now. When I wrote this post, I couldn’t connect my girlfriend’s laptop to my Mac’s Internet sharing. But after some tinkering, it did work. Unfortunately I could not recall what made it work. But I’m quite sure it had something to do with the AirPort settings.

hi sonn,,, this is what ive done,,, i first changed my personal firewall to allow all connections, go to network-sharing-checked on web sharing-ticked internet sharing-selected SWB(ive tried with or without wep pw) and then share,,, thus whenever i connect my windows, its always on a limited connection, my phone cant even connect to the swb connection,,, is there anything i need to change?
does pw thingie matter? my friend told me i can not include any pw since if i dont want to put any pw,,, but again, on both cases, its on a limited connection

try recreating your network without any password. make sure you’re using port 11.
