What I Did With $100

Last month, I blogged about winning $100 cash from a raffle and asked what would you do with it. Not that I don’t know what to do with it, but I wanted to know what other people would do with a surprise or unexpected income. As expected, the top two options that were suggested are to spend it, and to park it in a bank account. But I thought:

If I did spend it and gave my friends a treat, that would have been a one hit wonder, just a day of food or booze and good time. And after that, back to zero.

If I parked it in a peso bank account, it would have been exchanged to just Php44.50 per dollar, then would earn a measly 1% interest per year. Not appealing.

So what did I do with a hundred bucks? I waited a month and let the exchange rate increase. I then deposited it to my bank account (exchange rate at 46.90 - that’s Php2.40 gain per dollar) and invested the whole amount in stocks, just in time when most stocks are at bargain prices. I think I made the right move. What do you think?
