Linux Saved My Roommate’s Night
On my second night at Kingswood, the new place I’m renting, my roommate and I decided to share a little bit of our files and PC installers. I had an Alcohol 120% installer, and he needed to install it on his laptop that runs Vista so he could watch How I Met Your Mother and Two and a Half Men. So off he went to install Alcohol 120% on his laptop. A few minutes after…
BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH. Yup, He got the BSOD that every Windows user is afraid of and every Mac user is laughing at. Fortunately for him, I had live CDs of both Linux Mint and Ubuntu with me. And Mint was able to let him back up his files before attempting a Windows recovery. Thanks to Linux, my roommate was able enjoy his “scheduled sick leave” watching the third season of How I Met Your Mother.
LESSON LEARNED:
- Never use Alcohol 120% on Vista
- Better yet, don’t use Vista at all
- My next OS will not be Vista. While I am saving for a mac, I’m staying with XP or I might be migrating to linux
- Linux Mint and Ubuntu can rescue you from BSOD

Why save for mac ? In the price of one mac you can get one and a half better laptops with linux preinstalled. Or better, get no OS at all and put your os of choice.
No operating system is perfect, but mac is flawed way more the linux, that’s for sure.
